Program Overview:
This program provides the knowledge and skills required to provide pre-hospital care and function as an entry-level Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) in accordance with the standards established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Topics include National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) foundation standards, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathophysiology, life span development, public health, pharmacology, airway management, respiration, artificial ventilation, patient assessment, medicine, shock and resuscitation, trauma, special patient populations, and EMS operations. Successful completion of this program prepares the student for licensure as an Emergency Medical Responder in Illinois.
Program prerequisite includes a current American Heart Association BLS Provider certification.
