MTH 1121 - Mathematics for Elementary Majors

This course, along with MTH 1122, is designed to meet the requirements of the state certification of elementary teachers. Students are strongly encouraged to complete both courses in sequence at the same institution and should check the specific requirements at the senior institution. The sequence fulfills the general education requirement only for students with a declared major in elementary and/or special education. This course focuses on mathematical reasoning and problem solving. Topics will be selected from the following list: integers, irrational numbers and the real number system, number theory, probability, rational numbers, sets, function, logic, whole numbers, and statistics. The use of calculators and other technology is strongly encouraged. PREREQUISITE: PRE 0420 Intermediate Algebra with a grade of C or better or two years of college preparatory algebra and one year geometry or placement test score, or consent of instructor.
