HIT 2202 - Healthcare Law & Ethics

This course focuses on the ethical, legal, and social issues that influence the use of computer-based technology and information systems in the delivery of healthcare with an emphasis on the requirements needed to perform in a Health Information Management Department. Individuals will explore ethical, legal, and social issues and apply a decision making model to actual situations and case studies. Special emphasis is placed on: medical ethics; fraud and abuse; data privacy and confidentiality; informed consent; intellectual property issues; disclosure; transparency and accountability; compliance programs; healthcare data privacy and security regulations; and conflicts of interest.
