Program Overview:
The Medical Assistant certificate program will qualify students to perform clerical duties and assist in the clinical situations normally associated with medical offices, clinics, dental offices, hospitals and other health related settings. On the clerical side, this includes scheduling appointments, preparing and maintaining permanent records, arranging hospital admissions, typing reports, processing health insurance forms, ordering supplies, and keeping financial records. On the clinical side, a medical assistant may prepare patients for examinations, take vital signs, assist with first aid, and collect and process specimens. This program will give students the training and education they need for entry level jobs in the medical assisting profession.

Upon completion of the certificate, students can take the CCMA/CMAA exam through the National Healthcareer Association to become a certified CMA. The student will also be eligible to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified EKG Technician tests. Medical Assistant students must pass all courses in the program with at least a C and maintain a minimum term GPA of 2.0 to proceed through the program. Students must place into Beginning Algebra on COMPASS test or remediate to that level.
