This course familiarizes the student with practices and equipment involved in extracting and transporting coal. Three existing methods of mining - conventional, continuous, and longwall are studied, as well as electric, hydraulic, and compressed air power mining. Use is made of simulated mining equipment and proper and safe operating procedures are stressed. At the completion of the class, each student should be able to make minor adjustments, repairs, and cable splices to operate machines.
